About SLYN Systems
Four decades of showing up
Businesses that fix things for people either earn trust or disappear. SLYN Systems has been earning it in Louisville since 1985 — the same owner, the same phone number, the same promise.
It started at Fourth and Main
Jeff Slyn went to work in the computer business on May 1st, 1984, at an Entre Computer Center franchise downtown at Fourth and Main. That store closed on Christmas Eve the same year — an early lesson in how fast this industry eats its own. He kept going: The Computer Shoppe on Hurstbourne Lane, the Courier-Journal’s Computer Emporium, MicroAge on Dixie Highway.
By October 1985 he had seen enough stores struggle from the inside to know how he would run his own. SLYN Software & Peripherals opened that month, back when a computer cost a small fortune and buying one from somebody you trusted actually mattered. It still does.
In May 1993 the name changed to SLYN Systems & Peripherals, because by then the work had become what it remains today: whole systems — the machine, the network, the software, and the person using it all.
What four decades buys you
Every store Jeff worked for in the 1980s is gone. The chains that were supposed to make local shops obsolete have come and gone too. SLYN Systems is still here because the fundamentals never changed: answer the phone, tell people the truth about what their computer needs, and stand behind what you sell.
That longevity is practical, not sentimental. It means we have seen your problem before — probably hundreds of times, across every generation of hardware since the floppy disk. It means the advice is calibrated by experience, not by a sales quota.
Part of the neighborhood
Jeff has served on industry and community boards over the years — including the Lyndon Area Business Association and regional technology user groups — and the shop has always treated Louisville as a place to give back to, not just sell to.
